How to Control Diet When You Are Eating Out

Consuming food in restaurants is always tricky as it can potentially ruin your diet plans in a single go. Be smart and use these tips to remain on the track of losing those extra pounds.

Drink water

It is advised to drink water before, and after eating whether you are at home or going out. People who drink 500ml of water, at an interval of half an hour before or after a meal, intake fewer calorie foods and lose 44% more weight than those who don’t.

Read the menu before you order

Before giving an order, give a slight glance at the whole menu and note the items which have less calorie in it. Stick to the plan and choose items thoughtfully, so you don’t regret later.

Order Meal Before everyone

In social situations, people copy each other unconsciously. Whenever you go out for eating in a group, make sure you order first, so that you don’t get influenced by the choices of the other people at the table.

Order Two Appetizers Instead of a Main

I have seen that people mostly overeat when they’re served bigger portions. So you are advised to order two appetizers instead of the main course. It will help you fill up and control your calorie intake.

Slow Down and Chew Thoroughly

Chewing food thoroughly makes you eat less, and you feel full quicker. Try to count the number of chews per mouthful of food and prevent yourself from eating quickly.

Ignore eating your heart out

Never get trapped in the vicious loop of eating in a situation of an unlimited food supply.  We are usually bad at estimating our portion size and tend to eat more than what our body needs.  You can always choose a smaller plate to eat less and maintain your diet. It is also good to fill the plate with salad to avoid extra food.

Start with salad

According to nutritionists, you can burn a lot of fat by eating a bowl of salad before your lunch and dinner. Order a plate of salad before eating your main course to fill your tummy with good fibrous food. You can also order soup which is known to reduce your caloric intake by 20%.

Share your plate

Sharing your food can actually limit your hunger to a great extent. Try to convince your friend to order a single plate and share the food equally. Not only will you be eating less but also spending a good time with your buddy.

Avoid sugary drinks

Most of the Americans overeat sugar in their diet which not only makes them fat but also aggravates diabetes and heart conditions.  Eliminate sugar from your diet by ignoring carbonated /energy drinks and fruit juice. Try to stick with water or various kinds of tea for a different taste.

Choose tomato-based sauces

Always choose vegetable-based or tomato-based sauces over any creamy sauce to minimize the calorie intake from your meal.

These steps are necessary to prevent the bad habit of eating too much in social gatherings. Remember, a single day of uncontrolled eating can ruin days of self-control.
